Carpin

He was born in 1961 in Sumperk in the Czech republic and he has had extraordinary relation to drawing and painting from the early stage, when his few years study at anartistic school gave him promising artistic future. Nevertheless, he did not get to a college of applied arts and later on even to an academy of fine arts for politic reasons, that fold his talent into oblivion. He had finished a college of timber industry and after that he found a job as a manager by the Forest management, where he also was interested in quarry hunting.

However all the unpleasant events, which conclude his imprisonment, became paradoxically starting mechanism, which gave impilse into bringing long time ago forgot ten ability.

He had began to paint portraits of his room-mates or their close friend or relatives painted after photographs and his technique of drawing together with hundreds portraits has become more mature and more perfect. Later on it was a gradual shift incolours that was followed, firstly water-colours and then oil-colours.

He rendered his memories for forest and nature in his first oil-paintings which he could just see from the height behind the bars in the Mirov prison, but soon there were people on his pictures. At first he painted foresters, hunters or poachers, who completed in witty way of poetry of nature scenery, for which the painter used only his imagination. Later these themes stopped to be the real call for him and the main topic of his oil-paintings became the portraits and female acts.

Just few of us can imagine, on what conditions arose his work that we may admire onthese web pages, from which many of them are in private collections or galleries.

Huge mental suffering from impossibility to be close to his children and family, alone in overcrowded cells as well obstacles laid by his superiors in his way - everything is now in his pictures in which is life but also sex and erotica. A woman symbolises begining of life, love, tenderness and beuty that is not available in prison. Perhaps that is why soul of the painter Carpin desire for it so much, he quite divert from the themes which like the current trends and he stays loyal to realism, in which he was able to find his own style. There is alternate tender elements and poetic elements with appeal and provocation that the painter masterly links in clear harmonious total, quite in contrast with environment in which they arose.

Yes, Carpin was born in prison. There were painted his first pictures and there he chose his name that originated from Latin and it is name of tree that symbolises his native village. The boredom was not easy and it took eight years, the same time as it would last study of painting on art schools, if it was enable to him. Thanks to that his work is absolutely original and not being under external influence. As if it was born on a desert island without supervision of professors, whose artistic view is usually proved to be even in views of students. That way is Carpin quite exceptional.

These days is the painter free again. He left together with his paintings, which could see only his co-prisoners and supervisors until now, the gate of the prison. Today you can see and admire these pictures and it depends on your interest, whether Carpin will cease to exist or create new master pieces.
